Working together with the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians (GTB), the Traverse City Arts Commission has approved a project proposal to move forward with commissioning public art in the Clinch Park Tunnel that will be retrospective and culturally re ective of the Woodland Indians of the Great Lakes and speci cally the Grand Traverse Band. The project concept is supported by the GTB Tribal Council and they are encouraged by the opportunity to collaborate with the Arts Commission. The Traverse City Parks Commission has also provided support for the project. The Arts Commission will be asking the Downtown Development Authority for a motion of support on November 16th and on November 19th the project will be presented to the Traverse City Commission for approval of the location and expenditure from the Public Arts Trust Fund. The Traverse City Arts Commission has supported a project proposal to commission a permanent piece of public art in Hull Park. The Arts Commission would like to use the south-facing building facade of the Gordon and Jean Cornwell Sailing Center (Boathouse) to hang the art. The Traverse Area Community Sailing organization (TACS) has been contacted regarding the art project and has provided a letter of support. The Arts Commission has also received support from the Parks Commission. On November 19th, the Arts Commission will be asking the City Commission for approval of the location and expenditure from the Public Arts Trust Fund. The Traverse City Arts Commission has voted to partner with Loud and Proud, an anti-racist non-pro t production company located in Traverse City. Each year, the Arts Commission will team with Loud and Proud to complete and install a new work of interactive community public art to be placed in downtown Traverse City during Up North Pride Week (UNP), an annual week of celebration held by Loud and Proud, which will be June 20-24 this year.
