Clinch Park Tunnel Art Exhibition

The Traverse City Arts Commission is working in collaboration with Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa & Chippewa Indians to implement a long term rotating art exhibition in the Clinch Park Tunnel title the Mazinaadin Exhibition or “Make and Image.”

Mazinaadin Exhibition, Nineteen hand painted murals, digitally printed, depicting the history and culture of the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa & Chippewa Indians in the region.

The Clinch Park Mural Art Exhibition became a reality through a generous grant from the Grand Traverse of Ottawa & Chippewa Indians 2% grant program. Additional funds came from the Traverse City Arts Commission Public Art Trust Fund.

Artist

Bobby MaGee Lopez, named after the Janis Joplin hit, was born in SantaFe, NewMexico to a military family. His passion for creativity began at an early age, drawing with his father and sewing with his mother. He attended Bemis School of Art, and at 12, he started a custom design business. Upon high school graduation, he enrolled at the Art Institute of Colorado receiving his Associates Degree. He completed his BFA at Metropolitan State University of Denver, emphasizing mural painting.

 After University, Bobby MaGee owned and operated Innerspace Art Gallery in the RiverNorth(RiNo) Art District of Denver, CO for two years. His visual art company – Paint the World - is headquartered in Colorado. Although, many examples of his work can be found around the country in the form of monumental murals and gallery shows, as well as live painting performances.

When referring to this meaning project in honor of the Grand Traverse Band, Lopez says, “I have meditated upon the Anishinaabe until the spirit of their visions have united with my own.”
