The Traverse City Arts Commission is managed by the Traverse City Downtown Development Authority through an intergovernmental agreement with the City of Traverse City. The DDA approached the City of Traverse City in 2015 and recommended the adoption of a Public Art Ordinance the creation of an Arts Commission through public funding sources. The Public Art Trust Fund is receives funds through the City General Fund and DDA TIF Funds annually. Projects are also supported through grants and donations.

COLLABORATIONS
The Traverse City Arts Commission believes that collaborations are an effective way to advance public art. We are currently working on better criteria to address collaborations. We will not undertake a project unless the city agency, community group, or organization best situated to implement the public art we develop is involved from the very beginning. For that reason, every Arts Commission project is conducted in collaboration with the organization that proposed the project idea to us.

VOLUNTEER
Occasionally we need more hands to help us do our work. From installing public exhibits to leading tours to staffing one of our events, we cannot do our work without dedicated volunteers who care about public art.
